What do I know?

A little about a lot of things.

Baseball:

  • I got to watch a lot more baseball postseason than I was expecting to.  With all of the injuries Boston had to deal with, I really thought the Angels would pulverize them.  Shows what I know :)  Some exciting stuff too.  Not looking forward to the postseason because I'm afraid of what will happen to Varitek (their catcher, his contract is up, and a lot of people don't think they should bring him back - I am NOT one of them, he's the heart and soul, even if his batting blows chunks)
  • I'm glad Manny's gone, and I really hope he stays gone.  In fact, I hope the Yankees go after him, they'll never know what hit them :)
  • Love the Rookies - Lowrie & Masterson.  They're going to be phenom's next year.  Hope Elsbury uses the post season to dust off his issues.
Fatherhood:
  • Put the blackberry down, and close the laptop.  They go to bed earlier than you do, you can check your multiple email accounts after they're asleep.  You're the adult, act like it.
  • Read to  your kids at bedtime.  So what if they're 9 & 11.  They love it, and you know you love it too.  Especially when you get to read them your favorite fantasy novel by Raymond Feist.
  • You will deliver all 300 boxes that your determined little girl busted her ass and sold, and you will do it with a goddamned smile.
Work:
  • Focus, plan, and execute.  See the 40,000 ft picture as well as the 4 inch picture.  there is plenty to do at all levels.
  • Meditate before you leave, it helps you keep your head straight.
Physically:
  • That loosening in your shoulder and the lack of pain in your elbow?  Yeah, that's from working out regularly.
  • The lack of backaches is because your gut is slimming down (don't throw a party, it's not that great, but it's some)
Emotionally:
  • Take time for you, but not at a cost to other things that are important to you.  Learn to glean the enjoyment and clearness from the small things.
  • Don't blame yourself for everything, but don't shirk responsibility.
  • Don't try to make everyone happy.
Okay, so I guess this is more of a laundry list of the crap I'm thinking about at the moment :)  Still, it's my blog, right?

  1. Yes, it’s your blog, and it seems to be fulfilling its purpose. You get a clearer picture of yourself and your life by spilling your thoughts out here. You’re a wonderful husband and daddy, a talented programmer, and a loyal Sawx fan. None of these labels defines “you” on its own, but together they act as a directional marker for you, helping you discover where you want to go and who you want to evolve into.

You get a lot out of writing this blog. That’s all that matters. The feedback is just gravy. :-)

  2. OK here comes the “gravy”. Nice ramble about all that makes you a father, a husband, a worker and hopefully a good friend. Sometimes we do need this outlet to vent and it’s good that someone close to you knows that.

BTW-You should be worried about next year and the Sawx. This is a team in need…
