Trying to be better
I've been trying to post more often, but then I look around and it's days since I have. There's a lot going on right now, mostly physically.
So I'm 40, and I'm trying to get back into shape. I've been going to the gym 2-3 times a week, taking kendo on wednesdays, taking jujitsu on sundays. I should be feeling wonderful.
Dude, I feel like pounded shit right now. I just drove home from a really nice dinner with the folx in my IT department (no, I don't drink, so it's not that). We all sat and had drinks and dinner, and it was just nice hanging out with them in a relaxed atmosphere.
btw - I don't understand how people still go to bars. Dude! It was fine when we got there, but by the time we were ready to leave around 8, we were pretty much yelling across the table. Nuts. Glad I don't drink or have to go out to bars anymore.
Anyway, so what the hell is wrong with me? I ran 2.25 miles on saturday and my foot is still hurting. My right wrist started hurting for no reason end of last week (someone here thought it might be a ganglion cyst - sounds like star trek
). My ankle has been stiff as hell for the last month.
Why do I bother? It seems the more I work out, the more I hurt myself. And it just occurred to me that most of the reason I may be getting sore or hurt is because I don't stretch. That and I ran in soccer shoes on Saturday which was flippin stupid as hell.
Anyway, I need to go to bed.

Sounds like you need some yoga-love, my friend.

My wife and I were never runners as we both have crappy knees. A couple of months ago we decided to give it a shot as a lot of our friends are runners. What made all the difference are the sneaks! We went to Finish Line in Eatontown mall (the manager helped and was awesome) and now I want to wear my running shoes all the time they are so comfortable. My knees hardly hurt at all after running and my feet feel like they’ve been traipsing across clouds. The sneakers we got are called Brooks, not very well known outside the running circle. Hope this helps…

Greg: If I was 21 again, running in soccer shoes would have been fine, but you’re right, the shoes make the difference. I have a pair at work I’m going to start keeping in my car. I’ve heard of brooks, thinking I need a new pair sometime in the near future. Thanks for stopping by.

Is there a bump on your wrist? If not, maybe it’s carpal tunnel. My chiropractor works on my wrist and I rarely have pain ever anymore.
I have two pair of running shoes. I like one pair better than the other, so shoes definitely make the difference. I also wear ankle supports. I’m not sure what they’re made of… neoprene, maybe? They help my feet and ankles.

First of all, if I ran 2.25 miles all at once, EVERYTHING on me would be hurting. I’m a wuss like that.
Also, we don’t really go to bars much either. We don’t drink often, but when we do, it’s more fun to do it at home around your friends. You can keep the music at a reasonable level, and it’s more convenient because you can just pass out wherever you want.

Mike, thanks for stopping by
I’m feeling a little better today, but I’ll post about that in a bit.
