Blogger Question: How do you keep posting?

I was going to title this post, Blogger Question: How do you keep it up?, but I thought that would invite a lot of questions I just didn't want to even go near.

What makes you post?  I guess the real question should be, Why do you blog?

Me?  I blog for therapy.  I blog to share something cool.  I sometimes even blog some uber techie stuff that no one but me understands.

Why do I feel guilty when I don't blog?  Should I blog, just to keep myself writing?  Sometimes I think so, sometimes not.  I wish I could take more time to blog more indepth, but the spits and spurts of time that I do have to sit and blog are few and far between.  I have been writing some random thoughts that seem to be coming together into coherent thoughts and doing a little each day, and I think that's the key.  Even if I just write a paragraph that isn't related to the story, but is something that's bouncing around in my head, I can usually tie it in somewhere, but it's kept me writing.

That's the real key I guess to writing stories, just shut up and write.  Blogging is different.  I'm not like Dooce who I can't believe lives that much stuff in each and every day, tho having watched some of her home movies, she might just be that wacky/cool.  I guess I'm just jealous.  I'd love to generate more than 100 visits a day, tho that's 100 more than zero, right?

Speaking of which - why are you here?  I always wonder why people read my random whining.  I know Mike's here to rub in the fact that his team is doing a whole lot better than mine right now.  I'm curious to see why people read my stuff, and how they got here in the first place.

  1. My reasons for blogging change from time to time. I get a kind of rush when I write something that strikes a chord with others and get a similar feeling when I just feel I’ve written something “good.” Sometimes I feel like I don’t have anything interesting or funny or mind-blowing to write about, but then I remember something my friend M@ always tells me. Blogging is for me. If someone else finds anything of interest there, that’s just a bonus.

  2. Oh… and why do I read your stuff? Because your life is both similar and different from mine and I like to read about what’s going on in your world.

  3. I’ve always been an avid reader and I think real life is stranger than fiction, so that’s why I enjoy reading other people’s blogs. Men’s blogs usually have more variety, so I tend to read more of theirs than women’s blogs (meaning, it’s not just about their kids). I landed here from Mike’s blog.

I blog because all my RL friends have gone back to work and I get a bit bored/lonely during the school year. It’s a great social network and fun to meet people from around the world.

  4. I blog to have something that is 100 percent ME.

I got here through my friend Carol’s blog (Ramblings of a Hunter’s Wife) and keep coming back because I can relate to a lot of what you write, and you make me laugh. Go you!

  5. I blog for a creative outlet and as a journal. But also for the community. I love the give and take of the blog world and the incredible support. I don’t keep visiting blogs where there is no reciprocity, but I think if you’re garnering hundreds of comments per post, you just can’t be visiting back. So that makes it an entirely different experience, and not one I want to be part of.

I think I came to your blog when you commented on someone else’s blog – a way I often find new (to me) bloggers.

  6. I blog because I enjoy discussion. I also realize one of my gifts is being a teacher, so my blog is a forum for me to share my knowledge and educate others.

I read your blog because you were the best man at my wedding and I’ve known you for too many years. You can’t get rid of me that easily. ;-)
