Kids these days…

My Mom forwarded this on to me and I wasn't sure what to make of it at first. You have to understand, my Dad is a pilot and teaches Aeronautics at Downling College, so I took it seriously at first.

I was always a strict disciplinarian with my kids. But most people nowadays think it improper to discipline children, so I have tried other methods to control my grandkids when they have had one of 'those moments'

Since I got my pilot's license, one method I have found very effective is for me to just take the child for a flight. During this time I say nothing and give the child the opportunity to reflect on his or her behavior.

I don't know whether it's the steady vibration from the engines, or just the time away from any distractions such as TV, video games, computer, iPod, etc.

Either way, my grandkids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our flight together. I believe that eye to eye contact during these sessions is an important element in achieving the desired results.

I've included a photo below of one of my sessions with my grandson, in case you would like to use the technique.

  1. Ha! That’s a good one. I’ll try it with the car next time my boy whines about nothing. We need some eye to eye contact.

  2. That picture gave me a huge laugh out loud moment! I’m still smiling as I type this! Wish I could do that sometimes to my grandkids -the almost 8-year-old and the 5-year-old -both who live with me! Ah, the peace! Give your Mom a high-five from me for sending that to you!

  3. There’s something a bit horrible about that.

  4. Three in a week! Woot-woot! You’re on a ROLL!

I’ve seen this before, but it’s ALWAYS funny.
